Italy at the heart of the Mediterranean energy sector: ‘NeMeA Sistemi’ at the Chamber of Deputies for the ONTM General Assembly

The event took place on 11 February 2026 in the prestigious setting of the Chamber of Deputies’ Parliamentary Groups’ Hall “ONTM 2026 General Assembly – Energy in the Mediterranean”. The initiative, promoted by ONTM President Roberto Minerdo and the Hon. Luciano Ciocchetti, has turned Rome into the centre of the debate on ecological transition and the maritime safety.

The day was punctuated by high-profile technical sessions that set out the course for the future of the country’s economy:

  • New fuels and blue energy corridors: Discussions centred on the impact of the ETS on the blue economy and the new prospects for sustainable shipping through the adoption of alternative fuels.
  • LNG as a resource: Particular attention was paid to the regulations governing bunkering and the logistics of Liquefied Natural Gas as a cornerstone of the energy transition in maritime transport.
  • Digitalisation and Green Ports: The debate focused on the evolution of ports through cutting-edge technologies such as the IoT, AI and Digital Twin – tools that are essential for the efficient and sustainable management of ‘Technology for the Sea’ infrastructure.

Technology for the sea

During the afternoon session, Michele P. Boella, CEO of NeMeA Sistemi, spoke in his capacity as Sardinia Regional Coordinator of the National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea (ONTM). His speech highlighted how the Observatory must act as the essential link between the world of research and development, businesses and institutions.

Reflecting this vision, Boella stated: “ONTM is a space where we can all come together, build relationships, exchange ideas and, above all, create projects”.

The ONTM system acts, in fact, as a strategic facilitator, ensuring the synergy required for technological innovation to translate into tangible protection of our marine heritage. In this context, NeMeA Sistemi’s commitment serves as the operational arm that supports the mission of environmental protection, working to protect the maritime domain through a successful collaboration between the various stakeholders.

Projects such as SEASMA and EcoMonitoring+ accurately reflect this concept. These initiatives (organised by NeMeA Sistemi – AISMA) represent a tangible example of how cooperation between the research sector and the institutional world can translate theory into practice in the field of environmental protection. These technologies demonstrate the effectiveness of the transition from subsidised funding to innovation in the field, offering advanced tools for monitoring and prevention whilst seamlessly combining industrial development with environmental sustainability.

Working together for the future

The event reaffirmed Italy’s role as a sustainable energy hub in the Mediterranean. According to NeMeA Sistemi, participation in the ONTM General Assembly He confirmed his commitment to fostering collaboration and positioning technological innovation – driven by data accuracy – increasingly as a strategic ally in the care of the sea in the coming years.
